George Counts
George Counts was born about 1771 on Hawksbill Creek, Shenandoah County, Virginia. In 1789 he moved with other family members to Glade Hollow in Russell County, Virginia. George was said to have been somewhat of a "Mama's Boy" and, after his father's death, he took care of his mother for the rest of her life on the family farm. In Russell County, he met a young widow named Eve Haynes (Haines), whose first husband had been Daniel Matthias (or Matthias Daniel) Selzer (Selsor/Selser/Celsor), a neighbor of the Counts family back in Shenandoah County. Eve and Daniel sold their land in Virginia in 1782 and moved to North Carolina. In 1793 Daniel was killed, leaving Eve on her own with six young children.

George and Eve are said to have had six children, three boys and three girls. In about 1835 George and Eve moved to Washington County, Virginia where they lived until their deaths, ("Some Descendants of John Counts of Glade Hollow" by Elihu Jasper Sutherland, p. 300-305).
